Within striking distance of Vouvray are other
interesting excursions such as the towns of Blois,
Chinon and Saumur famous for both French history
and their castles which have seen so many political and
cultural changes over the centuries.
There are a variety of museums to wander
through in both Tours and Saumur which
is always a pleasant way of spending an afternoon.
The old quarter in Tours is a regular venue
for music festivals and exhibitions. Here you can see one
of the outdoor events which are also staged at night as
"son et lumieres".
The concert hall and theatre offer numerous
live events all year.
Probably the most well known artist and scientist
is Leonardo da Vinci. Many of you will
not be aware that he lived in Amboise for
the last years of his life helping Francois the First with
designing chateau architecture. Leonardo's home was at the
Manoir du Clos-Lucé which is open to the public and
displays some of the great man's life works. Definitely
worth a visit.
